You may have heard it said that armed with a bank account and a laptop; anyone can trade and make money on the stock market. Though this is essentially true, it must be remembered that the stock market can be a very dangerous place to be if you do not know what you are doing. Often likened to gambling, an inexperienced individual is sometimes more prone to lose his money while trading online than in a casino.

Basic knowledge

First and foremost, it is imperative that you understand the basics of the stock market and how it works. Words and terms like “PinkSheets”, “OTC’s” and “IPO’s” should have a concrete meaning to you. When it is announced on the news that the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 2 percent, the statement should no longer be a mystery to you, but allow you to draw conclusions and have an understanding of what happened during the day.
